The Malta Chamber will be convening a meeting focused on the implementation of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) in Malta. CBAM is an EU policy tool designed to apply a carbon price to certain imported goods, with the objective of reducing carbon leakage and ensuring a level playing field between EU and non-EU producers subject to carbon costs under the EU Emissions Trading System.
The discussion will provide an opportunity to hear and take note of key challenges and practical issues arising from its rollout, particularly in relation to compliance requirements and operational implications for affected businesses. It will also present The Malta Chamber’s work in assessing and interpreting the implications of the mechanism within the local context. Emphasis will be placed on the in-depth research and analysis undertaken by The Malta Chamber.
