The Malta Chamber’s Board of Management, led by President William Spiteri Bailey, met with the Leader of the Opposition Alex Borg and several shadow ministers to present the ‘RESET & LEAD’, The Malta Chamber’s Pre-Budget 2027 document.
Containing 150+ proposals, the document is based on six pillars:
• Reforms that initiate structural change
• Transformations prioritising core, value-added productivity
• Measures promoting Excellence and value-add replacing volume-driven expansion
• Standards to reshape business and institutional culture
• Execution anchored in firm legislative foundations and a fair, level playing field
• Good governance to build trust, uphold the rule of law, and ensure efficient use of national resources
In his opening statement, The Malta Chamber President questioned whether the economic growth model that has driven Malta’s progress to date is sustainable in delivering the future the country aspires to achieve.
He noted that there are decisions that can no longer be deferred. “There are also challenges that can no longer be viewed solely as matters for the government of the day. We must recognise that these are long-term national challenges that will have implications for future administrations and generations. Malta therefore needs a National Agreement on a number of strategic priorities that will shape the country’s future,” he stated.
