Xjenza Malta, as the BlueMissionMed Malta National HUB, is organising a workshop titled “Mind the Gap: Transforming Challenges into Opportunities for Cleaner Mediterranean Waters”. Scheduled for Monday, 19th May 2025, at The Planetarium Hall, Villa Bighi, Kalkara, Malta, this event is being held in collaboration with the Environment and Resources Authority and The Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry and RHE-MEDiation Project.
This workshop will bring together regulators, public entities, waste and wastewater sectors operators, academia, and Businesses to discuss Malta’s specific needs, challenges, and opportunities in meeting environmental targets. A key focus will be tackling pollution in the Mediterranean Sea while aligning with the EU Mission to “Restore our Oceans and Waters”.
A transformative approach will be introduced to drive systemic change in alignment with EU objectives. This strategy underscores the business community’s responsibility under the Polluters Pay Principle, recognising its critical role in driving innovation and shaping environmental outcomes. Moreover, collaboration between academia and public agencies will be highlighted as a catalyst for scalable solutions that simultaneously advance sustainability and economic growth.
The workshop aligns with the strategic goals of the BlueMissionMed project, which aims to restore ocean health by 2030 through pollution elimination, carbon neutrality in the blue economy, and fostering citizen engagement. This initiative reflects Malta’s broader commitment to sustainable development within its blue economy framework.
By fostering multi-stakeholder collaboration, particularly through active participation of business sector involvement, this event will showcase how enterprises can integrate innovative, sustainable practices into their operations, playing a key role in achieving Malta’s environmental objectives while driving long-term economic resilience and growth.
