Certificates Of Origin
The Malta Chamber is authorised to process Certificates of Origin and to authenticate other documentation.
A Certificate of Origin confirms the ‘nationality’ of a product and serves as a declaration to satisfy customs or trade requirements. Certificates are mostly required for customs clearance procedures to determine duties or legitimacy of imports. Certificates of Origin certify that goods in a shipment are wholly obtained, produced, manufactured or processed in a particular country.
Certificates of Origin are processed electronically via this link to the certification site.
In order to apply for a certificate users are required to register on the platform. Once this is in order the account is activated and the user may apply for a certificate of origin
The following steps should be followed in order to complete the set-up of the account.
Signature Upload
Each account within the site needs to have the signatures of its users uploaded. To do this, take a picture of your signature, email it to yourself and save it somewhere you can retrieve it. Next, log in to the system using your user name and password. Then press launch eCert. Then, navigate – Settings-Signatories. When you press signatories you will see an option to add signature. Click on this button to retrieve your signature file and upload it to the site, completing your name and job title. Don’t forget to press save towards the top of the screen.
Adding Users
Each account can have unlimited individual users added. To do this, log in to the system, click onto my account, scroll down to add/edit users and follow the instructions on screen. This can be repeated as required.
Applying for Documents
To apply for a document, click my applications once logged in.
Items to Note
Invoice Details – please ensure this reflects the value of the consignment covered, as this impacts the cost of the service.
Each application should be accompanied with the invoice for the shipment.
Electronic certificates (Express) are certified by the International Chamber of Commerce and accepted all over the world, however some Customs Departments in certain countries will not accept them, so it is in the interest of exporters to ensure that these are accepte3d by customs at the destination country. It is also possible to request a Standard certificates with a wet rubber stamped and signed by a Chamber official.
